Tree removal in Atlanta, GA

Some trees cannot be saved, and some are simply in the wrong place. We take them down in controlled sections, around your house, cars and power lines, and we leave the site clean.

When removal is the right call

  • The tree is dead, dying or has large dead sections
  • It leans, especially if the lean is new or the soil at the base is heaving
  • The trunk has deep cracks, cavities, fungus at the base or visible decay
  • Storm damage has split the trunk or torn out major limbs
  • It is too close to a house, foundation, pool or utility line to be managed safely
  • It is in the way of construction or site work

A certified arborist looks at the tree first. If trimming or a little time can solve the problem, we say so. If it cannot, we explain what the risk is and why removal is the safer choice. For more on spotting problems early, read common signs a tree is dangerous.

How we remove a tree

  • Plan the rigging and the drop zone. The approach depends on the tree, the access and what is nearby.
  • Take it down in pieces. Climbers remove limbs one at a time and lower them on guidelines, so nothing swings into your roof, fence or garden. Large trunks are cut in sections.
  • Use a crane when the site calls for it. Tall trees, tight lots and trees over structures can need a crane to lift sections out safely.
  • Chip, haul and rake. Limbs go through the chipper, and we recycle our wood chips. Logs are hauled or left for firewood based on the plan in your estimate.
  • Finish the stump. We can grind it during the same project.

Permits and local rules

Atlanta and several metro cities regulate removing certain trees, even on your own property. The rules depend on the city, the size and species of the tree, and sometimes whether the tree is dead or hazardous. We explain what applies when we estimate. Read our local notes for Atlanta, Decatur, Sandy Springs, Dunwoody and Roswell.

Removal on commercial and roadside sites

Removals next to parking lots, buildings and roads need a controlled work zone. We set out cones and signs, plan around your hours and keep the area separate from customers and traffic. Details are on our commercial tree service page.

What affects the price

Height, trunk size, access, what is under the tree, the tree's condition and the cleanup scope all change the price. Dead and decayed wood is slower and riskier to work, and trees over structures need more rigging. We give you a free written estimate before any work begins.

Questions about tree removal

How long does tree removal take?

A single tree is often finished in one visit, but it depends on the size of the tree, access and the cleanup scope. We give you a time estimate with the price.

Do I need to be home during the removal?

Not always. We need access to the work area and agreement on the plan beforehand. Tell us at the estimate if you will not be there.

Is it safe to remove a tree close to my house?

That is exactly what rigging is for. Climbers take the tree down in pieces and lower each one on a line instead of dropping it, and a crane can lift out sections when the site calls for it. The plan accounts for roofs, fences, cars and lines.

What happens to the wood and the stump?

Limbs are chipped and the wood chips are recycled. Logs can be hauled away or left for firewood if you want them. The stump can be ground the same visit, see stump grinding.

Do you remove trees after storms?

Yes. If a tree is on a house, car or driveway, see emergency tree removal and call us.
